A small note about cookies and browser storage

SparkQuest uses a small amount of browser storage to keep the platform working securely and to remember certain useful preferences.

We currently do not use advertising cookies, behavioural advertising trackers or third-party analytics tools.

This policy explains the browser technologies SparkQuest currently uses and why we use them.

Who we are

What do we mean by cookies and browser storage?

Websites can store small amounts of information in your browser in different ways.

This can include traditional cookies as well as technologies such as local storage and session storage.

In this Cookie Policy, we use “cookies and browser storage” as a convenient way to describe these technologies together where appropriate.

What SparkQuest currently uses

Essential authentication storage

SparkQuest uses browser storage to keep signed-in users authenticated and to support secure session management.

This storage is necessary for features such as Parent, learner and HQ sign-in.

Our authentication service manages this information as part of the secure sign-in process.

Learner session storage

SparkQuest stores a learner-session reference in the browser when required to support learner-access security and the one-device-at-a-time learner-session model.

This information is used to help protect learner access and is cleared through the normal learner sign-out/leave process.

Remembered learners for Spark PIN

If a learner has previously used SparkQuest on a device, the device may remember limited information so that it can offer the learner as a returning Spark PIN user.

This may include:

  • a learner display name; and
  • an opaque technical learner handle.

It does not store the learner's PIN, email address or password.

A remembered learner can be removed through the available “forget learner” controls.

Explorer preferences

SparkQuest may remember limited interface preferences, such as whether an Explorer milestone message has already been dismissed.

These preferences do not contain learner credentials.

Navigation/session preferences

The website may use short-lived session storage for technical functions such as restoring your scroll position while navigating between pages.

This information normally disappears when the browser tab or session ends.

Do we use advertising or analytics cookies?

No.

SparkQuest's current public website does not use:

  • advertising cookies;
  • behavioural advertising trackers;
  • advertising pixels;
  • Google Analytics;
  • third-party analytics tools;
  • tag-management tracking; or
  • cross-site behavioural profiling.

If we introduce optional analytics or marketing technologies in future, we will review this policy and introduce appropriate consent controls before those technologies are used where required.

Google Fonts

SparkQuest currently loads website fonts from Google Fonts.

Google Fonts does not set cookies in the current SparkQuest implementation.

However, when your browser requests the font files, technical information such as your IP address may be transmitted to Google's servers as part of that network request.

For more information about how SparkQuest handles personal information and third-party service providers, please see our Privacy Policy.

Is this storage necessary?

Most of the browser storage currently used by SparkQuest supports requested functionality such as:

  • secure authentication;
  • learner access;
  • session security;
  • remembering a learner on a trusted device; and
  • limited interface preferences.

Because SparkQuest currently does not use optional analytics or advertising tracking, there is no separate advertising or analytics consent choice to manage.

How can I clear browser storage?

You can remove cookies and browser storage through your browser settings.

Please note that clearing essential authentication or session storage may:

  • sign you out of SparkQuest;
  • remove remembered learners from the device; or
  • reset certain interface preferences.

SparkQuest also provides relevant in-product controls where appropriate, such as the ability to forget a remembered learner.

First-visit storage notice

SparkQuest may show a short informational notice explaining that essential browser storage is used.

The notice is informational rather than a marketing or analytics consent request because SparkQuest currently does not use those optional categories.

When you dismiss the notice, SparkQuest stores a small preference in your browser so that we do not need to show the same notice on every visit.

Changes to this policy

SparkQuest may update this Cookie Policy if the browser technologies or third-party services we use change.

If we introduce technologies that require additional consent or choices, we will update both this policy and the relevant consent experience before using them where required.

The Last updated date at the top of this page shows when this policy was most recently revised.
