Natural Sciences and Technology · Term 1

Start Your Quest

On this Quest, you'll discover…

Work out what makes something a living thing — and what does not.

  • Find out that there are many different kinds of living things, from bread mould to trees to people.
  • Discover the seven life processes that living plants and animals can all carry out: feeding, growing, reproducing, breathing, excreting, sensing and moving.
  • Investigate things that appear not to be living — dried beans, dried yeast and a fertilised bird egg — and find out that they carry on living given the right conditions.
  • Find out that some things were living and are now dead, such as dead wood and dry leaves.
  • Use pictures and case studies to sort things into living and non-living, and give your reason each time.
