Find out where materials come from and put their properties to the test.

• Sort materials into raw materials and manufactured materials, and find out how sand becomes glass, clay becomes ceramics and wood becomes paper.
• Investigate the flexibility of a ruler, record your results in a table and plot them on a bar graph.
• Test materials for their properties: hard or soft, stiff or flexible, strong or weak, light or heavy, waterproof or absorbent.
• Investigate what everyday objects are made from and why that material was chosen.
• Link different materials to the purpose of the object they are used for.
